200 participate in Pedal for NCC open Cycle Race 25 sept 2011


National Cadet Crops Group Headquarter Srinagar collaboration Cycling Association of j&Kfor its first time in its history conducted open cycle race Pedal for Race on 25th Sept 2011. Col. D.S. Govaya, SM NCC Group Headquarter Sgr. flagged off first Pedal for NCC open cycle race 2011 at Bakshi Stadium to Oberoy gate and back here on Sunday. Cyclists covered 14 kms distance.
The Race was organized by NCC Group Headquarter Srinagar under its Programmed in which more than 200 Cyclists, besides a large number of NCC cadets including senior officers of the organization witness.
The flag off ceremony of race started at 6.50 AM at Bakshi Stadium near Iqbal Park in which Cyclists from different districts of the Valley had thronged the venue for the participation. All along the route huge number of spectators and onlookers witnessed the Pedal for NCC along its route from Bakshi Stadium to Oberoy Gate Via, lalded hospital, Zero bridge, TRC crossing, Snonawar, Oberoy Police Golf Course, Nehru park, Dalgate, TRC crossing, Bakshi stadium, On the conclusion of Race, the winners of were awarded with cash prizes and the participants with certificates.
Speaking on the occasion, the C. O J&K Ist BN NCC Col. Pradeep Singh thanked the participants for their participation in the event and said that the interest of the people has encouraged NCC organization to conduct such events.
He said the NCC will organize Run for Fun on 28 sept 2011 from same route the people particularly the youth have shown much interest of their participation in these events. He said organizing such sports events aiming to channelize the energy of the youth towards right direction and hone their talent.
The organization will continue to make its efforts to inspire the youth of the state towards sports by organizing such events in future,

Srinagar, Sep 13: The stage is all set for J&K to host the 9th edition of the Mountain Terrain Biking (MTB) National Cycling Championship that will be held in flood channel Tengpora, Byepass here from September 14 to 17.
It will be first time that J&K would be hosting any kind of national cycling event that too of such a huge magnitude. In the event around 500 cyclists from all over country both male and female would be competing in various categories including 55 highly trained cyclists of host J&K. It will be a four day cycling extravaganza and competitions in individual time trial and mass start would be held in each category. Around 16 states are participating which include J&K, Kerala, Delhi, Andra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Assam and West Bengal.
The event is being organised by Cycling Association of J&K (CAJK) under the auspices Cycling Federation of India and has got the backing from Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
According to Secretary General of the Cycling Federation of India, A Saraf the event is being organised on the direction of Union Government with the aim to promote and give flip to the sports activities in the J&K state.
“We decided to organise event in J&K after getting directions from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under the auspices of Union Government and it is being organised after a gap of three years. Last MTB national event was held in Pondicherry in 2008,” Sarf said.
He urged the people of Srinagar to turn out in large numbers to boost the morale of the teams from across the country including Jammu and Kashmir, “ Cycling expeditions have always helped in fostering fraternity ties and I am confident that this event too would further strengthen national integrations and encourage local youth to become national champions” he added.
The event would be held at newly built and prepared MTB circuit, flood channel Tengpora Bye Pass. It is specially preparedness circuit made by CAJK for the event and it will have lot of surprises in store for the cyclist who will be competing.
Giving details organising secretary of the event Reyaz Ahmad Wani said, “We have built a special circuit for the event and it took us two months to sort out the things for making a better track for the event. Finally we chose the flood channel Tengpora track and starting making it suitable for the event. Our experts did lot of work to make it perfect” he said.
“The track will have lot of surprises in store for the cyclists and it will be real tough track. Only those cyclists who have talent and determination will be able to overcome the challenges that are in store.” he added.
Reyaz said it was dream of CAJK to host any kind of national event in State and to see it turning into reality is dream come true.
“We have been working for promotion of cycling in State from last decade and during all these we had set one goal in our mind that is to host a Grand National event. It is the moment for which we have been aspiring for and we will make sure that it will turn out as huge success” he added.
The event is expected to inaugurate by minister of state for home, tourism and urban development Nasir Aslam Wani while Governor NN Vohra is expected to be chief guest on the closing ceremony on September 17.

Cancelled for the past three years due to disputes, the ninth Mountain Biking National Championship is all set to be held in Jammu & Kashmir from September 14 to 17.



The event, which will see 500 cyclists participating from 16 states in India, has finally got the green signal from the government to be held in Srinagar, Cycling Federation of India general secretary, A Saraf informed.



"We are holding the championship after three years as we did not get the permission from the government to organise the event after 2008 due to some dispute. But this year we managed to get the clearance from the government of India to hold the tournament," said Saraf.



Last time, the championship was held in Andaman & Nicobar islands in 2008. Participants from 16 states -- J&K, Delhi, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Assam and Tripura -- would contest in the tournament in various age categories -- U-13, U-15, U-17, U-19 and Seniors -- in both men and women's sections. The championship will be inaugurated by the vice-president of India, Dr Hamid Ansari, and the governor of J&K, N N Vohra.

It is first time that J&K is hosting any kind of national cycling event that too of such a huge magnitude. In the event around 500 cyclists from all over country both male and female are competing in various categories and joining them are 55 highly trained cyclists of hosts J&K. It is four day cycling extravaganza and competitions in individual time trial and mass start would be held in each category. Around 16 states are participating which includes hosts J&K, Kerala, Delhi, Andra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Assam and West Bengal.
The event is being organised by Cycling Association of J&K (CAJK) under the auspices Cycling Federation of India and has got the backing from Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Union Government.
The four day event was flagged off by Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, Aslam Goni.
Speaking on the occasion Goni expressed happiness over the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) choosing Srinagar as the venue for the event and hoped that the event would further boost adventure tourism in the state.

Meanwhile on the inaugural day cyclists from Kerala and Hosts J&K dominated the things.
Kerala girls swept both the women's and Under-15 events while Suresh S P from the southern state bagged the gold at the men's event leaving the silver and bronze to the host team. Ajitha S, Ananta Kartika and Madhulekha, all from Kerala, won the gold,
silver and bronze medals in the Women's two lap team trial while all the medals in the girls under-15 category were bagged by Kalyani, Akhila V S and Nijitha, all from
Kerala. In the Men's 3 lap time trial, Suresh S P won the gold whole Gulam and Umar Nabi from hosts J&K bagged the silver and bronze respectively. Ameer Agha (J&K) won the Gold while Suraj V Sunny and Muhammad Ahad from Kerala won the silver and bronze respectively in the Under-15 boys' category.

SRINAGAR, Sept 14: Kerala girls' swept both the women's and under-15 events while Suresh S P from the Southern State bagged the gold in men's event in the 9th Mountain Biking National Championship which got underway here at Flood Channel, Tengpura Bypass, Srinagar today.

Ajitha S, Ananta Kartika and Madhulekha, all from Kerala won the gold, silver and bronze medals in the Women's Two Lap team trial while all the medal in the girls' Under-15 category were clinched by Kalyani, Akhila V S and Nijitha from Kerala.

In Men's 3 lap time trial, Suresh S P won the gold while Gulam and Umar Nabi, both from Jammu and Kashmir bagged the silver and bronze medals respectively.

In boys' Under-15 category, Ameer Agha of host State won the gold while Suraj V Sunny and Mohd Ahad from Kerala lifted silver and bronze respectively.

The 4-day event is being organised after a gap of 3-years following the directions from Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in which about 500 participants are taking part.

Kerala lifts champions trophy, J&K bags runners-up

SRINAGAR, Sept 17: Kerala lifted the overall champions trophy while hosts Jammu and Kashmir bagged the runners-up trophy in the 4-day 9th Mountain Biking National Championship which concluded here today.

During the valedictory function, Governor N N Vohra was the chief, who distributed winners' trophy to the Kerala team and the runners-up trophy to the Jammu and Kashmir team at the S P Higher Secondary School Auditorium here. District Development Commissioner, Mehrajuddin Kakru distributed individual medals to the winners on the occasion.

In his address, Mr Vora thanked the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) for choosing Srinagar as the venue for the games and extended whole hearted support to the CFI for hosting cycling activities in the State.

Speaking on the occasion, CFI Secretary General Aboobacker Saraf said the Federation was encouraging sportsmen living in different parts of our country with the help of Union Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.

"The Government of India has entrusted a major role to CFI, not only to produce world class cyclists but also keep our young population healthy and young through cycling. We have more than 18 cores of students studying at different levels all over the country. With a view to motivate and encourage this massive pool of talent, CFI has taken up a novel project with the slogan of "Do Cycling for Young India", he said.

The project is being implemented with the active support of the Human Resources Development Ministry of the Government of India, he said adding CFI has also set its eyes on getting India a deserved pride of place in the 2020 Olympics.

Masood Ahmed, President of the Cycling Association of Jammu and Kashmir also spoke on the occasion while Riyaz Ahamed, Organising Secretary gave the vote of thanks.

About 500 cyclists representing 16 teams from across the country participated in the championship, which was held after a gap of three years following the directions of the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

SRINAGAR, Sept 15: Kerala girls continued their winning streak by sweeping the gold medals in Girls Under-17 and Under-13 categories while in boys, cyclists from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh lifted gold medals in Under-19 and Under-17 sections respectively on the second day in the 9th Mountain Biking National Championship here at Flood Channel, Tengpura Bypass, Srinagnar.

In Girls Under-13 Cross Country Massed Start event, Akhila U S, Amritha Raghunath and Kalyani K J, all from Kerala bagged the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively while Geethu Raj and Krishna M S, both from Kerala clinched the gold and silver respectively in the One Lap Time Trial event while K Bhargave of Andhra Pradesh picked the bronze.

In Girls Under-17 Cross Country Massed Start, again Geethu Raj and Krishna M S from Kerala shared the gold and silver respectively while Sabiya from the host J&K clinched the bronze medal.

In Boys Under-13 Cross Country Massed Start event, Abhijith U S of Kerala, Muzaffar Ahmed of J&K and Fancy S of Kerala clinched the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.

In Boys Under-15 Cross Country Massed Start event, Ameer Azad and Ameer Ahmed Gojri, both from J&K claimed the top two medals while Bony Methew of Kerala bagged the bronze medal.

In Boys Under-17 Cross Country Massed Start category, Basappa of Kerala won the gold while Ahsan of J&K and Sayon of Kerala lifted the silver and bronze medals respectively.

In Boys Under-17 Two Lap Time Trial category, Narahari of Andhra Pradesh emerged as victorious and bagged the gold medal. Alan Baby and Mohd Ali Jowaar, both from Kerala clinched the silver and bronze medals respectively in said category.

In Boys Under-19 Two Lap Time Trial event, Josh Anthona from Tamil Nadu bagged the gold while Basappa of Kerala and Saravanan of Tamil Naud claimed silver and bronze medals respectively.
